NOBILE di MONTEPULCIANO wine tour
Montepulciano is situated at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level, at the junction of two valleys, theOrcia and theChiana.
The city center, whose origins date back to Roman times, spreads along a street that climbs up the hill reaching the central square, Piazza Grande: here you can admire the Cathedral, the Town Hall and the many Renaissance palaces that line the square.
Montepulciano certainly owes a large part of its fame to the wine that today is also one of the leading sectors of its economy.
The vineyards extending over the hills characterize the territory of the municipality, is the first, and visible sign of a vocation that expresses the highest quality products and that goes perfectly with a renowned gastronomic tradition.
The most famous wine of Montepulciano is certainly Nobile, one of the first Italian wines to have obtained the DOC and even the first to have been able to boast of the Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin (DOCG).
It is a red wine, produced in small quantities, according to, the strict rules of grapes and ageing.
In many companies of the municipality and in the impressive monumental cellars of the historic center, you can enjoy Nobile wine, considered one of the best Italian wines.
Other wines produced in Montepulciano are the Rosso di Montepulciano, Bianco Vergine Valdichiana, Chianti Colli Senesi and the precious Vin Santo (italian dessert wine), all of Denomination of Origin Controlled and Guaranteed.
