ASSISI and PERUGIA tour

Assisi is one of the most famous and well-known towns in Umbria, above all from the point of view of religious and spiritual matters, as a city that was the birthplace of St. Francis, the patron saint of Italy, and of Santa Chiara. Assisi not only has an important artistic and cultural history, as seen by the Palazzo dei Priori and the Municipal Art Gallery, but it has always been a place of pilgrimage in the Christian world. There are numerous churches to visit, among which the most important are the Basilica of St. Francis and the Basilica of Santa Chiara. Many churches were beautifully decorated by the best artists, and for that reason Assisi was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Perugia is the most important city in Umbria, situated in an elevated position in the valley of the River Tevere, near Lake Trasimeno. In ancient times it was called Perusia, an Etruscan city and prosperous commercial center, and then dominated by the Romans in the fourth century BC. Today Perugia extends from the main street, Corso Vannucci, with steep narrow streets and alleys, that lead down to the newer part of the city. In this street we can find monuments of great artistic and historical importance such as the Palazzo dei Priori. There are very famous events held in Perugia every years, such as Umbria Jazz and Eurochocolate. Perugia is, in fact, home to one of the most famous Italian chocolate companies: "The Perugina".
